We work in watersheds around the world where the interplay between climate, development, ecosystems, and society has led to complex water problems requiring multidisciplinary research approaches

Current research at home looks at quantifying urban water pollution (plastics, sediments, and nutrients), monitoring ecological restoration, improving desalination energy efficiency, and watershed planning for water quality improvement in Lake Okeechobee. 

Current projects:

• Optimizing Lake Okeechobee operations and watershed best management practices for water quality improvement

• Seasonal and spatial patterns of plastics pollution

• Constructed wetlands for landfill leachate reclamation

Mekong River basin in south east Asia

We study the interactions between hydrological alterations and floodplain ecosystems in the Mekong River Basin.

Current projects:

• Subseasonal forecasting of river discharge

• Economic, social, and environmental drivers of rural migration in the Lower Mekong River Basin of Cambodia (2018-2020). Collaboration with the University of Chicago.

• Fate and transport of plastics in the lower Mekong River in Cambodia
